Three things to look for when hiring a directional boring contractor
December 7, 2020Directional boring vs. Trenching: Three things you need to know
May 9, 2021If you are planning a construction project in 2021, you might be digging – which means you could be considering directional drilling for your next project!
If you are considering directional drilling for your next project, that’s great! But if you have questions about why it could be a good fit, here are three reasons to consider it. Read on:
Safety of directional drilling
Directional drilling is safer than other methods. It’s just a fact. Traditional methods can be dangerous, for workers and others but this method can mean less surface excavation with just two points – entrance and exit. That means there aren’t as many open trenches or holes and also, what is being installed (pipes, utility lines etc.) can be done without lengthy road closures and dozens (or more!) workers. It’s also more environmentally friendly and less invasive.
Speed
It’s true! While it might require more upfront prep and planning, when it’s actually happening, it is a faster process than traditional drilling. There is less work, less disruption and a faster end to the project, be it utility, sewer, water or other lines. It’s also more adaptable, meaning you don’t have to worry about barriers, landscaping or bodies of water.
Cost
When you compare, directional drilling is generally more cost effective than traditional methods like digging trenches. Why? It takes less time, there is less disruption (meaning there is less to “fix” when it’s done) and usually it takes less manpower and equipment.
That’s a real win-win in our opinion!
