What you need to know about sewage line repairs and directional drilling
January 12, 2024Season by season: A look at directional boring
June 4, 2024If you are like many homeowners, you might be looking forward to a spring home project (or two!). But have you thought about utility location?
Don’t let your spring home project get derailed – or over budget – by forgetting about utility location.
Here is a spring home project (or five!) that might require relocating your utilities. Read on:
- Building or adding on to your home: If you are building a new home – or if you are adding on to your home in the way of a garage, barn or addition – you might need to relocate utilities. And one thing you might need to consider if you purchased a new piece of property is the existence of old utility lines. Be sure you have the property properly surveyed!
- Fencing: Good fences make good neighbors but fences can require a lot of digging. And depending on the size and location of the fence, you might need to have utility lines moved or marked.
- Pools: A pool is a fun spring home project but it is definitely something that is disruptive to install! Make sure if you are installing an in-ground pool that you have the area properly surveyed.
- Gardening and landscaping: You might not consider utilities if you are doing some basic gardening or landscaping but digging can be dangerous so make sure you check the area properly before beginning!
- Patios or decks: Putting in a new patio or deck means nights enjoying the weather with friends and family but they also require digging! So, before you begin, have the area checked out and flagged.
When you are doing a spring home project that requires digging or excavation, don’t try to map out utilities on your own. Call a professional! It can be a dangerous job and requires someone who knows how to detect and mark your site.
